Success story: From chaos to focus - how we got a team out of the sprint trap
The challenge: Everything began – but nothing was finished
A medium-sized software company approached us because their development team was not delivering the desired results sprint after sprint. In each sprint, many user stories were set to “In Progress”, but in the end a large part remained unfinished. The team was frustrated, the Scrum Master was unsure and the stakeholders were dissatisfied.
Our coaches observed the work process and realized that too many tasks were being started at the same time, without clear priorities and without real collaboration. The team got bogged down instead of working in a focused manner.
To improve the situation, we introduced the Work in Progress (WIP) method. The idea: instead of starting everything at the same time, the team should limit the number of parallel tasks and focus on completing ongoing stories.
But the team was skeptical:
